FAQs

What Is the Tracker Gathering?

The Tracker Gathering is a unique, collaborative, and joy‑filled celebration of our tracking community, offering workshops and activities for every skill level in a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere where learning happens naturally.

Trackers from across North America will come together to explore redwood country, share stories in The Lodge meeting hall and deepen their skills through hands‑on experiences and daily free clinics each evening on topics ranging from feather and skull ID to obscure tracks and plant browse sign.

With a choose‑your‑own‑adventure format, you can stay for a couple of days or the full week, mixing and matching workshops, group outings, and communal activities entirely on your own schedule.

Evenings bring trackers to The Lodge where they can prepare their meals in the totally equipped kitchen and enjoy the camaraderie and fun that comes with hanging out together in The Lodge meeting & dining room for good conversation followed by a tracking presentation at 6pm --- complete with time to connect with Kim Cabrera herself and enjoy unhurried conversations with fellow trackers.

Every moment is designed to build camaraderie, spark inspiration, and strengthen the bonds of a community that learns, laughs, and grows together, all while supporting the TCNA Financial Access Fund to make professional‑level tracking training more inclusive.

If I take a bunk in one of the cabins, what should I bring?

The YMCA furnishes a clean cabin.  The beds come with a mattress, and that is it. You can bring a sleeping bag and a pillow, or sheets, blankets, and a pillow.

If I use a bunk in a cabin, who will my roommates be?

The YMCA furnishes 11 clean cabins.  Each cabin has eight bunk beds. Each guest is responsible for leaving it as clean or cleaner than they found it. We will allocate cabins for males, and cabins for females and cabins for couples.  Many folks prefer to camp in the redwoods, so we feel cabin occupancy will probably should not exceed 3-4 individuals, providing each occupant with a bunk for sleeping and a bunk for storage.

What is furnished in the bathrooms and showers?

Your hosts will purchase toilet paper and paper towel sufficient for our needs.  Bring your own shampoo and soap.

Who Profits From the Tracker Gathering?

100% of all proceeds from day use and certifications are donated to scholarship funds for YMCA Camp Ravencliff and Tracker Certification North America.

What is a Tracking Certification?

The heart and soul of the Tracker Certification process is captured by well-known nature and wildlife author Ben Goldfarb who actually participate in the entire process.  His account lays out extremely well exactly what a certification looks and feels like. It was published in the Smithsonian Magazine.

Access Through The Locked Gates

The only access to Camp Ravencliff is through a locked gate. The road is accessible to standard two‑wheel‑drive vehicles.
